ON THE TRAIL , continued

We didn't exactly knock ourselves out on the trails. Probably just made enough room for the next meal.

Overlooking Kailua and Kaneohe at the Pali Lookout

The old Pali highway is now a paved hiking trail in a state park

Easy walking and lovely vistas

Quick look at the cannonball tree in Foster Botanical Garden. Signs here say "Watch out for falling cannonballs." Shortly after we moved away from the tree, a cannonball actually fell. Hard.

Cannonball tree flower and orchid, just a small sample of the beauties at Foster's

Forget the exercise. Get in the convertible. Our Mustang convertible served us well.

TO THE BEACH

En route to the beach, we watched the Aloha Festivals parade on Kalakaua Avenue

Quintessential Hawaiian float has it all -- surfboards, hula dancers, musicians, flowers

Local color at the parade -- horse riders take a break and hula dancers lead a band

Blissful, tranquil (?) Waikiki Beach . . . but what are all those S-o-n-i-c B-o-o-ms?

It's the Thunderbirds! The Air Force is celebrating its 60th birthday here.

Look how low they fly -- and one plane is upside down

More aerial maneuvers wow the crowd

Life at the beach . . . another good day
